Regional Schools Budget Update
Since March 14, the Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee (RSC) has been proposing a budget increase that would reduce the suggested $3 million cuts to $812,000. Per the current assessment method required by the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Town of Amherst would need to increase its contribution by 4.81%, Pelham by 23%, Leverett by 14%, and Shutesbury by 7.5%. At a meeting on Monday, the Town Council voted to refer the budgets and assessment method to the Finance Committee to hold a public hearing by April 28.
I and I: Rhonda Cobham-Sander's Foray into Caribbean Literature
On April 11 and 12, the Department of Black Studies will host a symposium at Inn on Boltwood honoring Rhonda Cobham-Sander, Emily C. Jordan Folger Professor of Black Studies, featuring keynote speaker Simon Gikandi, Class of 1943 University Professor of English at Princeton University. The symposium will offer an opportunity for Cobham-Sander’s friends, family, and alumni to celebrate her legacy.
Trump and the Future of Academia: A Conversation with Professor Darel Paul
In response to President Donald Trump’s policies targeting higher education, The Willmott Family Third Century Professor of Political Science Darel Paul from Williams College will host a conversation on April 14 in Paino Lecture Hall. Paul’s research focuses on elite ideologies in Western culture, especially in relation to globalization and international political economies. The conversation aims to help understand why the current administration is reacting to universities’ ideologies.
